North West is found in the northern part of South Africa on the border of Botswana, with Gauteng Province to the east and the Free State to the south. Also known as the ‘Platinum Province’, North West is rich in underground metals, producing a quarter of South Africa’s gold, granite, marble and diamonds. Mahikeng, previously Mafeking, is the provincial capital surrounded by popular main towns including Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp, Brits, Sun City and Rustenburg.
