Found on the West Coast in South Africa’s Western Cape, Grotto Bay is a relatively small town that is popular as a holiday and residential area. There are various houses and homes for sale, as well as vacant land and stands to buy in the outlying areas. The Island is situated near a river mouth where a lagoon is formed and is where the majority of houses and homes to buy can be found.
Grotto Bay will always be associated with one of its first residents, Charles Searle and his family. When a bridge was built across the river in 1859, it was to be funded by a tollgate and the tender to operate this was awarded to Searle. He soon settled on the farm Voorbrug, established a shop and a watermill, with a wool washing concern.
