Hermanus
Renowned as the world’s best land-based whale watching destination, Hermanus holds a Whale Festival in September each year that attracts visitors both local and foreign. Once hunted close to extinction, the Southern Right Whales now frequent the area within a stone’s throw of the rocks, where you can sit and watch them for hours on end. The town is growing steadily and now has a variety of residential and commercial property for sale.
Located in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, Hermanus is about 100kms east of Cape Town, on the far side of the Hottentots Holland and Wemmershoek Mountain ranges. Sir Lowry’s Pass provides easy access to the region, as well as some magnificent ocean views along the coastal road. Those who buy houses and homes in Hermanus are able to experience a combination of peace and quiet in the fishermen’s village out of season, with plenty of action during the tourist rush.
Meerenbosch located a leisurely one hour from Cape Town, 45 mins from Cape Town International airport and just 10km from the historical seaside town of Hermanus.
Some of the cottages enjoy majestic views over the lagoon to the Palmiet mountains which forms the spine of the Kogelberg Biosphere. Each plot (±438m˛) is nestled amongst Melkhout trees and are all very private and exclusive.
This is a perfect holiday destination for bird lovers as it boasts more bird species than any other area within Southern Africa. Some of the cottages may be extended to double storey for even better views over the lagoon and mountains.
Private parking areas next to each cottage with footpaths leading to the lagoon – which is popular throughout the year for windsurfing and canoeing etc.
The area is complete with a communal swimming pool, tennis courts, clubhouse and slipway for boats.
