Gansbaai
Named after the wild geese found in the area, Gansbaai is located on the Garden Route in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. Once a quiet fishing village, the area has become increasingly popular as a tourist destination due to the excellent shark viewing around Dyer Island, about 12kms off the Gansbaai coast. A colony of about 30 000 seals lives on the island and provides the Great White Sharks with a steady meal. The houses and homes for sale in Gansbaai cater mostly for the holiday property market, although there are those owned by residents in the community.
The shark cage diving in the area has come under much criticism, with many people believing that the minced fish the various boats use to attract the sharks will encourage attacks on bathers closer to the shore.
