The southernmost tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas is located along the world famous Garden Route in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. Portuguese seafarers named it the “Needle Cape” due to the fact that their compass needle pointed straight north with no deviation. Today, there is about a 24 degree variation west, as the magnetic poles are constantly in flux.
