Botrivier
Situated in the foothills of the Houw Hoek Mountains, Botrivier is part of the Overberg region of the Western Cape and en route to Hermanus and Caledon. The Bot River flows through one of the most fertile regions of the Cape, which means that the area offers a variety of vacant land, smallholdings and agricultural property for sale. The farming community also has a range of residential houses and homes to buy.
Botrivier gets its name from the Khoi Khoi tribes who called the river “couga”, meaning rich in fat or lots of butter. When the early settlers to the Cape arrived, they journeyed here to trade for barrels of butter and adopted the Khoi name for the river, first calling it “botter” and later “bot”. The river rises south of the Theewaterskloof Dam and forms the Bot River Lagoon, a wetland that is home to thousands of waterfowl and the only herd of wild horses to roam a wetland ha
