Calitzdorp
A town situated in the Western Cape’s Klein Karoo, Calitzdorp was established when land was granted to JJ and MC Calitz in 1821 and the area was originally known as Buffelsvlei. There is an old Church found here that was declared a national monument in 1991 and the Calitzdorp Dam is one of the first ever to be built in South Africa. A wine farming area, the property for sale in Calitzdorp includes residential houses and homes, as well as various farms and smallholdings for sale.
Known both as the ‘Port Wine Capital of South Africa’ and the ‘Fruit Basket of Kannaland’, Calitzdorp has a thriving farming community and offers a picturesque rural landscape and atmosphere. The climate is primarily hot and dry, which suits the port grape variety and there are similarities between this area of the Western Cape and the Douro Valley in Portugal.
