Knysna
Known to be a popular retirement destination for the wealthy,is perhaps the most commercialized place along the Garden Route in the Western Cape. There is a quaint waterfront complex where a number of shops and restaurants can be found, geared mainly for the tourist sector. The main road is also packed with shopping malls and other amenities. Those who buy property in Knysna enjoy the beautiful landscape and the chance to have a relaxing retreat in winter and a bustling holiday destination in the summer. The Outeniqua Choo Tjoe train offers some of the most magnificent views on its journey from Knysna to George.Knysna is a Khoi word, but its meaning is a little unclear. It could be ‘place of wood’ or ‘fern leaves’, but it’s most likely ‘straight down’, which is an obvious reference to the Knysna Heads.
