Munster

Munster is a coastal village that lies on the KwaZulu Natal South Coast on the way to Port Edward, halfway between Southbroom and the Wild Coast. Within walking distance of Glenmore, the two areas share the same bay and are renowned as having great swimming and surfing opportunities. There are also some incredible places to go rock climbing here and take in the stunning views on reaching the top.

The South Coast is known for its sheer beauty and Munster is no exception to the rule, with unspoilt beach, lush coastal vegetation and giant rocky outcrops. The bay area is shark protected and surfers aplenty take full advantage of the excellent waves. The mouth of the Itongasi River provides the perfect location to launch boats and Glenmore beach is often the site of fishing competitions. The annual Sardine Run beached here in 2000 and always attracts scores of dolphins to entertain the lookers-on.

Close to the beach in Munster is the Umtamvuma Nature Reserve, which is located inland from Port Edward and houses a breeding colony of Cape vultures. The reserve is also home to baboons and monkeys, a variety of buck species and the black backed jackal, to name but a few. There is also a rich forest canopy filled with thick ferns, lichen and other indigenous plants that provide plenty of opportunity for bird watching. After spring, there are spectacular wild flowers to feast the eyes on. It’s no wonder that property in Munster is so sought after.
