The fourth town ever founded in Kwazulu Natal, Newcastle is a primarily agricultural and industrial area in South Africa. Before coal was discovered in the 1800s, the area’s industry focused mainly on washing and spinning wool from the sheep farming that took place here, but today there are steel furnaces that dominate the town.
