Found on the Midlands Meander in Kwazulu Natal, Estcourt originally developed as a village around a fort that was built on a hill overlooking the Bushman’s River during the pioneer days. First occupied in 1847, the fort is reputedly haunted by ghosts and is as secure as a castle, with drinking water vats in the basement, a drawbridge and moat, as well as two secret tunnels. Named after Thomas Estcourt, the town is now a thriving centre of industry in South Africa, with a number of residential homes and farm land for sale.
