Located in the Kwazulu Natal Midlands area, Camperdown is a pretty little village that caters mostly for the agricultural industry that is in place here. Its name comes from the British naval battle at Camperdown in 1797, where the British claimed victory over the Dutch. Farmlands were acquired in this area of Natal by John Vanderplank around 1840. The various properties for sale here include residential homes, as well as smallholdings and farms to buy.
The original farm owner in Camperdown was sent black wattle seed from his brother in Australia and was surprised when they grew into trees instead of remaining shrubs. In 1887, the bark began to be used as a source of tannic acid, but the tree has since been declared an enemy of local vegetation by the local government.
