Morningside
Morningside is one of Durban’s more upmarket suburbs that spreads from the lower end of the ridge overlooking the city to just above KwaZulu Natal’s Greyville Racecourse. The area is relatively well established, which means that there are a number of classic Edwardian and Victorian style homes with the standard tin roofs and wide wraparound verandas.
There are also some beautiful parks found in Morningside, such as Mitchell and Jameson, and the area’s trendy streets offer a distinctly cosmopolitan appeal. The night life is known to be quite vibey, with a variety of restaurants, pubs and bistros to take advantage of around Florida Road. With Berea on one side and the Umgeni River on the other, this suburb ranks as one of Durban’s three most popular residential areas.
Morningside is renowned for its excellent value for money when it comes to property investment. The streets offer a tree-lined seclusion and atmosphere of peaceful rest and relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Even more appealing is the fact that the Durban July is held annually at the Greyville Racecourse, attracting a multitude of horse fundis and fashionistas. The King’s Park stadium has been tipped as a semi final venue for the 2010 Soccer World Cup, which is even more of a reason to buy property here.
