Berea

Berea is the old historical area of Durban in South Africa’s KwaZulu Natal region and is situated close to the CBD and the beach. Its central location means that it is also just 20 minutes drive from the International Airport. The area has an interesting mix of commercial and residential property, which gives it a unique and distinctive character, making it popular with investors both local and foreign.

Berea is often referred to as the ‘heart and soul’ of Durban and it’s easy to see why when you take a look at the wonderful entertainment centres converted from old homes and buildings. The nearby Musgrave Shopping Centre is a meeting place for residents from all walks of life and generally carries an infectious buzz of activity. The tourist sector is catered for with a number of excellent hotels and guesthouses, as well as cafes that spill out onto the pavement.

The Berea area was once forested and is home to some of the oldest mansions that Durban has to offer. One of the more upmarket areas in the province, many of the residential homes have made way for commercial enterprises or apartment blocks. Made up of two main parts, namely Musgrave and upper Glenwood, the area borders on the suburb of Morningside. With such an intriguing character and surrounded by all the necessary amenities, it’s no wonder that property in Berea is so sought-after.
