Vaal Dam
The Vaal Dam is located in Gauteng about 77kms from Johannesburg and the O.R. Tambo International Airport. It is bigger than the surface area of Luxembourg and is South Africa’s biggest dam in area and third largest by volume. It was constructed in 1938 and is fed from two water sources, the Vaal River and the Wilge River. Those who buy properties in the Vaal Dam area are attracted to the serene lakeside location and the various watersport activities on offer.
With over 800kms of coastline and a surface area of over 300 square metres, the Vaal Dam is certainly a superb location to buy a holiday house or home. The Lesotho Highlands Water Project pumps fresh water into the Vaal Dam system in order to supply Gauteng and the surrounds with clean water. When the second phase of the operation is introduced, it will supply drinking water to the greater Johannesburg area for the next 25 year
