Springs
Part of the East Rand in Gauteng, Springs lies 50km east of Johannesburg and derives its name from the large number of springs that are found in the area. Owing its development to three portions of “uitval grond” that were surveyed in 1838 which led to the discovery of underground springs, coal was also discovered here and a village was established in 1887. It became home to a colliery, but coal mining gradually declined when the mines at Witbank were established. There are a variety of properties for sale in Springs, including residential houses and apartments, as well as smallholdings and stands for sale.
During the gold rush in 1895, prospectors took an interest in Geduld farm and mining activities commenced in 1903. This brought an increase in the number of workers and led to the planning of a new town. Informal settlements of black miners and Indian traders also began to spring up around the a
