Part of the Johannesburg Metropol in Gauteng, Soweto may sound like an African name but it is in fact an acronym for “South Western Townships”. The area forms a cluster of townships that sprawl across a 20 km diameter south west of Johannesburg. Soweto is an eclectic mix of the apartheid struggle history and the energy of the city of gold, giving it one of the most diverse and interesting communities in South Africa. There are a number of residential houses and homes for sale in the area, as well as vacant land and stands to buy.
Soweto is the most populous black urban residential area in South Africa, home to a population nearing a million. Its proximity to Johannesburg means that is also one of the most cosmopolitan and metropolitan townships in the country.
