Found in the West Rand in Gauteng, Roodepoort literally means “red valley” in Afrikaans and gets its name from the red soil in the area. The history of the town dates back to 1884, when a prospector discovered the first payable gold in the area and named the rocky outcrop in the centre of Roodeport, Confidence Reef. Today it is a sprawling residential area, with a few businesses and small industries also found here. Those who buy property in Roodepoort have a choice of houses and homes, apartments and flats, smallholdings and other properties for sale.
The town of Roodepoort sprung up around the various gold mines that were opened for prospecting on the farm owned by Jan Bantjies, as the diggers needed somewhere to pitch their tents.
