A gold mining town found in South Africa’s Gauteng Province, Randfontein is located 45kms west of Johannesburg and was first established after mining financier J.B. Robinson bought a farm of the same name in 1889. Robinson started the Randfontein Estates Gold Mining Company and the town was set up to serve the new mine. The various residential areas cater for the mine employees and have a variety of houses and homes for sale. The mine was administered by Krugersdorp until Randfontein became a municipality in 1929.
One of Randfontein’s main claims to fame is that the Randfontein Estates was home to the largest stamp mill in the world, capable of producing 600 stamps. Another popular attraction is the Riebeeck Lake, which provides those who buy property in Randfontein with plenty of entertaining activities.
