Germiston
Situated in the East Rand of Gauteng, Germiston was established early on during the gold rush when two prospectors found gold on Elandsfontein farm. Both these men made their fortunes and the town of Germiston sprung up around the mine, named after the farm in Scotland where one of the men spent his childhood. Its main claim to fame is that the world’s largest gold refinery - the Rand Refinery, was established here in 1921. There are a number of residential areas that have developed in Germiston, with a variety of houses and homes, apartments and flats, townhouses and estates for sale.
Germiston relies on a number of other industries, including engineering and steel, chemicals and explosives, machine tools and glassware, as well as textiles and food. Each of these industries requires an extensive workforce and the various residential suburbs in Germiston provide the necessary accommodation.
