Located on the East Rand in Gauteng, Benoni is believed to have more horse stables per square kilometre than any other place in the Southern Hemisphere. There are a number of attractive, tree lined suburbs that make up Benoni, with a variety of luxury and more affordable residential houses and homes, apartments and flats, townhouses and estates for sale in the area. For a place that had a relatively inauspicious start, Benoni has developed into an excellent commercial and residential area, with a variety of smallholdings and farms for sale in the outlying areas.
Benoni started life as a piece of “uitval grond”, essentially oddly shaped ground that had been left over after farmers had market out their land. The president at the time, Paul Kruger had these pieces of land surveyed and sold as farms, but one piece in particular caused problems and was named Benoni – meaning “son of my sorrow
