Harrismith
Find property for sale in Harrismith, a primarily agricultural area in the Freestate found at the centre of one of the top five wool-producing districts in Southern Africa. The town was established in 1849 and named after the glamorous British Governor, Sir Harry Smith. It is known to have some of the most beautiful mountain resorts and spectacular scenery in the province. The properties to buy in Harrismith are predominantly smallholdings and commercial farms, with a number of residential homes and holiday houses for sale, as well as vacant land available in the outlying areas.
The first location for the town proved to be deficient in water, so Harrismith was relocated in January 1850. During the diamond rush in Kimberley, the town became a bustling staging post on the transport route in Natal, with hotels and stores springing up in record time. Those who buy property here
