Bathurst
Found on the Sunshine Coast in the Eastern Cape, Bathurst is located about 121kms inland from Port Alfred on the road to Grahamstown. Its main claim to fame is that it is the former administrative centre for the 1820 settlers who were established in the area as a buffer between the Cape Colony and the Xhosa pastoralists migrating along the south and west coast. The properties for sale in Bathurst include many of the original settler houses, other residential homes and apartments, as well as various smallholdings and stands to buy in the outlying areas.
Due to the preservation of many historical buildings in the area, Bathurst retains much of the look and feel of an early 19th century English village. The Pig and Whistle pub is at the heart of the village is reputedly the oldest existent pub in the country. Those who buy property here are generally after a tranquil environment.
