Found in the Eastern Cape, King Williams Town is relatively small and located on the Buffalo River, about 50kms by rail or 40kms drive away from the coastal port of East London. A somewhat checkered past, it was originally established as a mission station in 1826 but the Xhosa tribesmen soon destroyed it and drove the missionaries out. Sir Benjamin D’urban retook the area and named it after the reigning British monarch, but again the Xhosa drove the settlers out in 1846, before developing into a prosperous trading centre after the last frontier war. Today there are a variety of properties for sale, including houses and homes, apartments and flats, smallholdings and farms, as well as vacant land to buy.
