Middleburg
Founded in 1852, Middleburg is a town in the Eastern Cape situated on the banks of the Brak River and named for its central position to the surrounding towns of Cradock, Colesburg and Richmond. Although part of the arid Central Karoo, the area is surprisingly fertile as a result of its abundant supply of underground water. The properties to buy in Middleburg include residential houses and homes, smallholdings and farms, as well as various stands for sale.
Along with many other places in South Africa, Middleburg had its beginnings on a farm and was established when the Dutch Reformed Church bought Driefontein. Interestingly enough, the purchase took place on 6 April 1852, which is exactly two centuries after Jan Van Riebeeck landed at the Cape. Those who buy property here are mostly farmers or locals looking for the peace and quiet that a rural lifestyle promises
