Found in a warm hollow in the Eastern Cape, Grahamstown is a place that has acquired many names over the years. “Settlers’ City” refers to the role the town played during the frontier years, while “City of Saints” derives from the many churches found in the area, the most famous of which is St George’s Cathedral. Last but not least, it is known as the “City of Schools” due to its status as an academic centre of South Africa, with a variety of schools and colleges, as well as the world famous Rhodes University located here.
