The Western Cape is without a doubt one of South Africa’s most beautiful and diverse provinces, made up of Cape Town, the West Coast, Breede River Valley, the Winelands, Central and Klein Karoo, the Overberg and the world famous Garden Route. The South Coast includes the major centres of Mossel Bay, George and Knysna, all of which offer a stunning wilderness landscape and endless stretches of coastline.
Cape Town is the provincial capital and world renowned as one of the most cosmopolitan cities on earth. A literal melting pot of different cultures, its position at the tip of the African continent has earned it the name of Mother City, as it is where trade with Europe first began and the settlers first landed in Africa. The Swartland mountains are an awesome sight, providing a protective barrier around lush valleys, while Table Mountain offers its own towering presence watching over the Cape Peninsula.
The Winelands region comprises the stunning rural towns of Stellenbosch, which houses an excellent university, the largely Afrikaans population in Paarl, the culinary capital of Franschhoek, the expansive vineyards in Worcester and Robertson, among others. Stellenbosch is one of the oldest towns in the Western Cape and is home to a variety of Cape Dutch architectural sites.
Tourism is one of the Western Cape’s biggest currency earners, as the beautiful landscape and sublime Mediterranean climate attract visitors both local and foreign. While the southern coastline is relatively temperate and lined with picturesque mountains, the north stretches into the Karoo plateau and the West Coast is extremely dry. Here, fishing is the main industry, while other areas lend themselves to the cultivation of grapes, with many estates producing fine South African wines. With so much to offer, it is no wonder that there are countless buyers looking to invest in Western Cape property. |
