The West Rand owes its development to the discovery of gold in the area, although there is still a relatively large part of this region that remains rural and undeveloped.  The climate is temperate and the scenery some of the most beautiful that the Gauteng has to offer, making it popular with property investors.  There are no less than two mountain ranges surrounding the area, as well as the Skeerpoort and Crocodile River valleys to take advantage of.
