Umhlanga Property | North Coast

Umhlanga can be described as a literal gem on KwaZulu Natal’s North Coast, particularly in light of its popularity as a seaside holiday resort.  It was originally part of the sugar estate owned by Sir Marshall Campbell and has since developed from a relatively small village into a thriving community.  The town is now well established with an excellent infrastructure and access to all the necessary amenities, yet it still retains a friendly coastal atmosphere.

The Umhlanga area on the Dolphin Coast promises a breathtaking diversity of tropical fish and coral reefs to explore, making it the perfect location for scuba diving and snorkeling.  The warm waters and excellent waves also encourage plenty of surf enthusiasts to the shores.  Those of you who enjoy drifting down memory lane will no doubt enjoy the drive-in here, which happens to be one of the last in South Africa.  If you’re more inclined to modern entertainment then the Gateway Shopping Centre is located here and just happens to be the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

The Umhlanga Lighthouse is a prominent landmark on the promenade and was completed in 1954.  The tower stands over 20 metres high and has a focal plane of 25 metres.  The nearby Sharks Board gives residents and visitors the opportunity to watch an audio-visual presentation that captures the drama of the ocean as they carry out their daily servicing of shark nets or even witness a shark dissection.  Hawaan Forest is an indigenous woodland area that has remained in its natural state for centuries and is characterized by a diverse species of tropical trees, as well as various birds and animal species.  Whatever your motivation for buying property, there is no doubt that Umhlanga offers some of the most sought after on the North Coast.
