Saldanha Property | West Coast

Saldanha is a coastal village located at the northernmost end of the largest and deepest natural bay in South Africa, which can be found on the West Coast.  Situated about 110 kilometres from Cape Town, this picturesque harbour town is essentially driven by export and the fishing industry, producing a range of crayfish, mussels, oysters and other fish for the local and export markets.

The harbour is dominated by the Sishen-Saldanha iron ore project and is also home to a naval training base, the South African military and a fleet of fishing vessels.  This part of the world is largely unspoiled and retains a rustic seaside atmosphere that is quite charming and a definite attraction factor.  The bird life appears to outnumber the residents by a million to one and eco-tourism is a popular pastime.

Saldanha Bay was first discovered by European sea traders 500 years ago, but there is fossilized evidence that they may well have been here as far back as 117 000 years ago.  The Langebaan lagoon is located on the southern side of the bay and is popular with the yachting fraternity and avid game fishermen.  It is not unusual to land yellowtail or tuna and snoek is available in the winter months.  If you are looking for a peaceful life by the sea then investing in property here in Saldanha might be just what the doctor ordered.
