Rustenburg Property | North West

Rustenburg is located in South Africa’s North West province and lies due west of Pretoria.  From the 1860s, the area was home to Paul Kruger, who later became president of the Transvaal republic and ‘father’ of the Afrikaner people.  The name means ‘town of rest’ and aptly so, considering that the region boasts an atmosphere of tranquil peace and quiet with an ample dose natural beauty in the various gardens and trees.

It is in Rustenburg that the rival factions of the 19th century Voortrekker community made their peace and founded the Dutch Reformed Church.  The area has a country feel and literally basks in the sun at the western foot of the Magaliesberg range of hills.  The outlying region is home to a flourishing agricultural industry, which yields crops of maize, wheat, tobacco, cotton, vegetables and cut flowers destined for the local and overseas markets.

Set in the hillside is the Rustenberg Nature Reserve, which is a valley cut through by streams and graced by a wealth of indigenous flora.  Some of the views are spectacular and the terrain is popular with walkers, botanists and bird watchers.  There are 230 avian species that have been recorded here, including some magnificent raptors, as well as various buck, jackals and leopards seen in the region.  If you are looking for a relatively laid back and tranquil country lifestyle then Rustenburg is the place to invest in property.
