Pretoria is the administrative capital of South Africa and forms part of the country’s Gauteng province.  Although the smallest province in the country, it is the most populous and this means that there are a multitude of residential suburbs with a vast selection of real estate to choose from.  Lying in the Apies River valley, the Meintjies Kop overlooks the sprawling city of Pretoria and its historic Union Buildings.

The city originally developed around Church Street, which now forms the central hub of business and other activity.  The urban area is renowned for its tall buildings, wide streets and most importantly its beautiful parks and gardens.  The various avenues are lined with jacaranda trees, which provide a striking violet canopy during spring and this has given Pretoria the name of ‘Jacaranda City’.

With a climate similar to that of nearby Johannesburg, Pretoria lies at a slightly lower altitude than its neighbour and therefore enjoys temperatures an average two degrees higher.  Both cities have expanded to the point where their outlying areas are practically joined and the O. R. Tambo International Airport services both areas.  The city is also the hub of an important rail network and advanced industry, which was originally based on the manufacture of steel and includes the engineering, food processing and mining industries.

The Magaliesberg mountain range provides outdoor enthusiasts residing in the region with plenty of enjoyment and this surrounds the Hartbeespoort Dam, which is yet another scenic attraction offering a variety of recreational activities.  Sports lovers can watch rugby at the Loftus Versveld stadium, cricket at Berea Park and the world renowned Centurion, located southeast of Pretoria.  There are also a number of excellent shopping centres and world-class malls to take advantage of.  Other places worth mentioning include the Moot area and Bronkhorstspruit, which are two popular locations when it comes to property in Pretoria.
