Potchefstroom Property | North West

Potchefstroom is part of the North West province and one of the oldest towns in South Africa, boasting a rich and vibrant history that is reflected in a number of national monuments.  The most popular of these cultural testaments is Oak Avenue, which spans nearly 7km from the Agricultural College to the Lakeside Holiday resort and is the longest avenue of oak trees in the southern hemisphere.

The Vredefort Dome just outside of Potchefstroom is the site where a giant meteor hit the earth 2000 million years ago, leaving a crater some 90km in diameter and causing a shift in the earth’s crust across a radius of 150km.  The site is a fascinating natural phenomenon, with a shape and vegetation that differs to its surroundings and has since become a prime tourism site.  Found near the banks of the Potchefstroom Dam on the Mooi River, a number of resorts and other tourist facilities have developed to cater for the visiting crowds.

Potchefstroom boasts one of the top universities in the country and has a wealth of world class sporting facilities.  The excellent climate attracts sportsmen, particularly athletes, from all over the globe wishing to train here.  The town houses one of only two premier high altitude training centres in South Africa, which is responsible for the hordes of international athletes who flock to this part of the country.  The country club is home to a superb 18-hole golf course and there are a variety of other sporting facilities to take advantage of.  Those interested in North West property should really consider investing in Potchefstroom.
