Port Edward Property | South Coast

Port Edward is located on KwaZulu Natal’s Hibiscus Coast and takes its name from the Prince of Wales, who later became King of England.  In 1947 it became a village and is in fact the last village in the province.  A popular holiday destination today, the area boasts stunning beaches that are shark protected for safe swimming.  Silver Beach is extremely popular as a fishing destination, which happens to be one of the most popular sports here.

The gullies, rocks, surf and rivers in Port Edward offer plenty of entertainment for those fishing with a rod and line.  The beachfront is also home to South Africa’s longest supertube and scuba diving enthusiasts can take full advantage of the chance to view a mystical shipwreck found 300 metres offshore.  The Portuguese ship was wrecked in 1552 and is the oldest known shipwreck on the KwaZulu Natal coastline.  There are a number of beautiful forests in the area that house over 200 species of bird and wildlife.

One of the most popular annual attractions in Port Edward is the Sardine Run, which sees millions of these creatures head north from the Eastern Cape to reach the warm waters here and plenty of predators in pursuit.  The incredible phenomenon is a brilliant sight, as the sardines swim in a state of frenzied commotion that comes across as an explosion of silver-purple hued ocean surface attacked by squadrons of Cape gannets and cormorants from above and predators from below.  With such an incredible selection of reasons to buy property in Port Edward, it’s no wonder that it is always in such high demand.
