Phalaborwa Property | Northern Province

Phalaborwa is located in South Africa’s Northern Province and is renowned for the intense heat that can take hold, especially during the summer months.  It is essentially a modern copper mining town that lies just 3 kilometres from the Kruger National Park.  Tourists flock to the Limpopo in search of the true African safari and the proximity of this area to the country’s most prestigious game park makes it a perfect place to stay.

This part of the Northern Province is also home to the ‘big hole’, the largest manmade hole on earth, which is also visible from outer space.  The mining and smelting of copper and iron ore in Phalaborwa date back to 400 AD when the Sotho name for the area meant ‘better than the south’.  This part of the Lowveld is certainly beautiful and ‘better’ most definitely refers to the wealth of mineral deposits in the area.

About 2000 million years ago, there were a series of volcanic eruptions in the Phalaborwa area that left an astounding geological feature measuring 19 square kilometres, filled with phosphates, copper iconium, vermiculite, mica and gold.  It’s therefore understandable that much of the local economy here is based on mining activities.  The area is also home to one of the best golf courses in South Africa, making Phalaborwa an excellent choice when it comes to property investment.
