Paarl Property | Boland Western Cape

Paarl is a picturesque town located about 50 kilometres northeast of Cape Town in the Boland region and happens to be one of the three oldest European settlements in South Africa.  The farmlands on the banks of the Berg River were given to Dutch settlers in 1687, just 30 years after Jan van Riebeeck first landed at the Cape.  The fertile soil and ideal Mediterranean climate are the perfect compliment for farming endeavours in the region.  A visit here will take you through orchards, vegetable gardens and endless vineyards.

The town takes its name from a massive granite rock intrusion that appears to shine like a pearl in the sun.  The Paarl Museum is situated on the main street and has an excellent historical display on the town and surrounding area.  With over 75 000 inhabitants today, this is the biggest town in the Cape Winelands region and houses a prosperous community.  The area is renowned for its stunning architecture and there are a number of well-preserved mansions and Cape Dutch style homes with beautiful gardens and established oak trees.

The valleys surrounding Paarl are filled with wine estates, which produce some of the best wines in the country.  The most well known of these is no doubt the Nederburg estate.  An interesting attraction found near here is the Afrikaanse Taalmonument, which symbolizes the development of Afrikaans into a language of its own.  When it comes to buying property in a vibrant and naturally beautiful area in the Western Cape, there really is no better choice than Paarl.
