The Howick Falls are known to the local Zulu people as KwaNogqaza, which translates as ‘place of the tall one’ and were first seen by European adventurers in the early 19th century.  Farming remains the primary activity in the surrounding area and there is also a highly respected seat of agricultural learning here.  Often referred to as waterfall country, this part of Kwa Zulu Natal is known for its excellent fishing opportunities, bird watching and game viewing, as well as all things equestrian.
