Hibberdene Property | South Coast

Hibberdene marks the gateway to the Hibiscus Coast in KwaZulu Natal and lies almost 100 kilometres south of Durban, halfway between Scottburgh and Port Shepstone.  The coastal town takes its name from the former Postmaster General C. Maxwell-Hibberd.  Today it is regarded as one of South Africa’s most popular seaside resorts and holiday destinations and known for the relative affordability of property and the sheer beauty of the surrounding area.

Situated at the mouth of the Umzimai River, Hibberdene boasts five popular beaches, of which four are shark netted and safe for swimming.  The fact that the shores are washed by the warm Indian Ocean mean that swimmers and surfers can take full advantage of the water, with scuba divers and snorkellers also enjoying the marine life on offer below.  There is a local dive shop here that operates charters on a daily basis to a variety of magical reefs in the bay area.

The reefs in Hibberdene are magnificent and form home to many rare species, including the long nose hawkfish, soft coral sponge and fern coral.  Endemic to this part of the South Coast are the rare black coral fans and one of the main features is the 7 metre high wall of diverse and beautiful fans and sponges.  Residents and visitors can take part in various other activities, from ski boating to fishing, whale watching and super tubing.  There are also a number of excellent sports facilities here, with tennis and squash available at the local club, as well as bowls and golf.  With so much on offer here it’s no wonder that property in Hibberdene is so popular.
