Durban Property | KwaZulu Natal

Durban is one of South Africa’s major ports and the city pulses with all the energy that goes hand in hand with business and industry.  It also forms the economic hub of Kwazulu Natal and is one of the fastest growing urban areas in the country, mainly due to the fact that its port is one of the ten biggest in the world.  Another major factor has to do with Durban’s status as a prime holiday destination, boasting a coastline washed by the warm Indian Ocean and a temperate climate promising plenty of healthy sunshine.

Durban’s beachfront is often termed the ‘Golden Mile’ due to the prolific presence of luxury hotels and holiday accommodation catering for the local and international tourist market.  The popular Dolphin Coast stretches from the affluent Umhlanga Rocks and Ballito north of Durban Central to the mouth of the Tugela River.  The area takes its name from the abundant dolphin life that frequents the warm waters along the coastline.

With the 2010 World Cup on its way to South Africa, the residential property market in Durban has benefited and in recent years the city has proved it is no longer lagging so far behind Cape Town and Johannesburg in the property stakes.  The area is known for its excellent value for money when it comes to property investment, as prices are still about 20 percent lower than in other big cities.

Durban’s South Coast includes well-established holiday destinations like Port Shepstone and Margate, all of which continue to grow in response to the ever-increasing demand for Durban property.  Other places worth mentioning include Amanzimtoti, Empangeni and Richards Bay. The types of residential real estate available in the sunny city and its surrouding areas range from houses and homes, to apartments and flats, townhouses and security estates, cluster developments, as well as vacant land plots and guesthouses.
