Bonnievale Property | Breede River Winelands

Bonnievale is a stunning village located in the Western Cape’s Breede River Valley that is perhaps not as well known as other towns in the region.  This is mainly due to the fact that it is bypassed by Route 62, which is the longest wine route in the world and certainly one of the most popular.  The residents aren’t too upset, as this means the area has remained one of the best kept secrets in the valley.

Bonnievale is often referred to as ‘Cinderella of the Breede’ and lies in the shadow of the Langeberg and Riviersonderend Mountains on the banks of the Breede River.  This part of South Africa is known fondly as the valley of cheese and wine for good reason, as it produces some of the best wine and cheese in the country.  There are four co-operative wine cellars, four estates and at least two private producers housed in the area, including the oldest wine cellar, Nordale.

Wine tourism is perhaps the biggest economy driver in this part of the Western Cape and the various farmers are only too happy to provide visitors with tours around the grounds or the opportunity to taste the produce.  Parmalat has won the Cheese Manufacturer of the Year award for three years running and there are other excellent producers in Bonnievale.  The river is an excellent source of entertainment for water enthusiasts, with canoeing, fishing and the countless hiking trails along its banks.  If you are looking for property in a rewarding rural environment then Bonnievale is the perfect location.
