Boksburg Property | Johannesburg

Boksburg is part of Johannesburg’s East Rand area in Gauteng that owes its establishment to the discovery of gold in 1887.  The suburb takes its name from the state secretary at the time, Eduard Bok.  The main reef road linked this area to all the other major mining towns in the vicinity.

The mining commissioner built an enormous dam in the area, which stayed empty for a number of years, leading to its nickname ‘White’s Folly’.  However, a flash flood in 1889 silenced all his critics and the Boksburg Lake is still a spectacular site today, over 150000 square metres and surrounded by lawns, trees and terraces.  The lake is popular with watersport enthusiasts, who take advantage of the excellent boating, fishing and other activities on offer.

Boksburg is one of the most important gold producing towns on the Witwatersrand and has a diversified industrial and mining sector.  The area is home to the popular East Rand Mall, which includes a variety of shops and restaurants typical of such complexes.  Bokkie Park is known to be a prime spot for family outings, offering children plenty of fun experiences on the farm, such as milking cows or feeding the animals.  With such a wealth of entertainment and natural beauty, it is really no wonder that property is so popular in Boksburg.
