Blaauwberg Property | Cape Peninsula

Blaauwberg encompasses the wide sweep of Table Bay north of Cape Town Central and includes the residential suburb of Milnerton, the Rietvlei wetlands, Table View and Bloubergstrand.  This side of the Cape Peninsula is reputed to have some of the most spectacular views of Table Mountain and many of the most well known photographs of Cape Town are taken from the beaches here.  It is also not unusual to see surfers and kitesurfers taking advantage of the excellent conditions and entertaining the crowds.  The infrastructure is well established here and there are a number of popular bistros and restaurants on the beachfront that cater for the residents and tourist sector.

Milnerton is one of Blaauwberg’s oldest suburbs and was founded in 1897, taking its name from a former high commissioner for South Africa, Lord Alfred Milner.  While the area had a relatively slow start, development took off in leaps and bounds after the introduction of the railway in the early 20th century.  Since then, it has become one of the fastest growing areas in the Western Cape, which is only spurred on by the added appeal of spectacular views and prime property.

Blaauwberg’s Table View area is located further north, across the Rietvlei wetlands and lagoon, which is popular for its abundant birdlife.  The community here is relatively young and vibrant, with a distinctly cosmopolitan feel.  The beachfront is lined with residential developments, restaurants, pubs and entertainment centres.  There is a racing circuit at Killarney, which features on the local racing map and the Milnerton Golf Course offers a welcome round of golf for residents and visitors alike. Another new community has started to develop at a rapid pace in the Parklands area.

Bloubergstrand is perhaps the most famous of Blaauwberg’s suburbs, particularly for its endless stretch of white sandy beach and the magnificent views across Table Bay to Table Mountain and Robben Island.  The area is ideally situated just 20 minutes from the city centre and half an hour from the wine route and international airport.  Big Bay is often the site of major national and international surfing competitions.  It also marks the gateway to Cape Town’s West Coast, which is set ablaze in a riot of colour during the wild flower season.  If you are looking for the ultimate in coastal property then Blaauwberg is definitely a viable option to consider.
